Prelude

Opening Song – NTH 55 – To God Be the Glory

Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 2 Timothy 1:2

Call to Worship Song – NTH 734 – Gloria Patri

Call to Worship – I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! – Psalm 34:1-3

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Hymn of Praise – NTH 172 – Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder

Reading of the Law – Romans 3:9-20

(Silent Confession of Sin)

Corporate Confession of Sin – Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us. And grant, O merciful Father, for Jesus’ sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and joyful life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon – But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. Romans 3:21-25a

Doxology – NTH 733

Exhortation to Give – “…Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35b

Prayer for Collection & Pastoral Prayer

Medley

– God of Grace

– NTH 465 – Marvelous Grace of Our Loving Lord

Scripture Readings – OT: Genesis 16:1-16 / NT: Galatians 4:21-5:1

Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Prayer for Illumination

Sermon – An Exposition of Galatians 4:21-5:1: “Who’s Your Mother?”

The sons of slavery are those in bondage to the law – but the sons of promise are free in Christ.

  1. 1. Two sons and two mothers. (Galatians 4:21-23)
  2. 2. Two covenants and two mountains. (Galatians 4:24-27)
  3. 3. Who’s your mother? Are you a slave or are you free? (Galatians 4:28-5:1)

Prayer of Application

Hymn of Response – NTH 455 – And Can It Be That I Should Gain

Benediction – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
