Reading of Law – A Summary of the Ten Commandments & Great Commandment

I. You shall have no other gods before Me.

II. You shall not make for yourself a carved image…You shall not bow down to them or serve them.

III. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

IV. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

V. Honor your father and your mother.

VI. You shall not murder.

VII. You shall not commit adultery.

VIII. You shall not steal.

IX. You shall not bear false witness.

X. You shall not covet.

And as Jesus summarized the Law in Matthew 22:37-40: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

(Silent Confession of Sin)

Confession of Sin – Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and sober life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.      John 3:16-17

Exhortation to Give – So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.           Gal. 6:10
