 Matthew 27:52-53 (ESV) 52  The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53  and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

 

  1. These saints were in the grave for the same reason we will be in the grave

 

          Ezekiel 18:4  But these were “Saints”???

          Romans 5:12  

 

  1. These saints were not the first people ever to come out of the grave

 

     The Old Testament people did believe in the resurrection

            Job 19:25-27  

            Isaiah 26:19  

 

       There are many examples of resurrections in the Old Testament

                   1Kings 17:22 -            2 Kings 4:35                2 Kings 13:21   

                   Mat 9:25                   Luke 7:15                       John 11:14.  

                   Acts 9:40.                    Acts 20:9-12               Why?  1 Kings 17:24                   

                                       

III. These Saints being raised from the dead face us with several questions  

 

       When were they raised?

                   At the crucifixion?  

                   At the resurrection –  

     

       How were they raised? 

                   Corruptible  

                   Incorruptible –  

 

       Who Was raised?

                   OT Saints –  

                   OT Martyrs –  

                   Modern Saints –  

 

  1. These saints were raised also to provide us with several comforting truth

 

                   Jesus death satisfied Gods justice and releases us from deaths hold

                                      Hebrews 2:14-15  

 

                   Even those who died before us will rise again

                                      1 Thess 4:13-18

 

                   When we rise again we will have recognizable bodies (jesus did)

                                      1 Corinthians 15:49  

                  

                   We are now raised from the death of sin to a life of holiness

                                   2 Corinthians 5:15-17
