(Silent Confession of Sin)

General Confession of Sin – Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon – Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.         Romans 5:1-2

Exhortation to Give – For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. – 2 Cor. 8:9

Sermon HEBREWS: JESUS IS SUPERIOR – An Exposition of Hebrews 2:14-18

“Jesus Our Merciful High Priest”

The Son of God’s true humanity is our salvation:

1. His mortality qualifies Him to deliver us from death and the devil. (Heb 2:14-16)

2. His likeness to us qualifies Him as our priest and sacrifice for our sins. (Heb 2:17)

3. His sufferings qualify Him to help us in our temptations. (Heb 2:18)

Prayer of Application

Hymn of Response – NTH 243 – Praise the Savior Now and Ever

Benediction – May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  – Romans 15:5-6
