LIVING HOPE OPC ORDER OF WORSHIP for Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 10:45 AM

Prelude

Opening Song – NTH 55 – To God Be the Glory

 Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Song – Glorify Thy Name

Call to Worship – One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple. Psalm 27:4

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Hymn of Praise – NTH 53 – Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Reading of the Law – Romans 3:9-20

Corporate Confession of Sin – Almighty God, we confess we have broken your commandments. We have sinned by selfishness, worldliness, unbelief and pride. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves, and we have not walked humbly with you. Forgive us our sins and blot out our debts according to your tender mercies, according to your loving kindness. Cleanse us by the blood of Jesus your Son. Give us a humble and contrite heart that we might forgive others as you have forgiven us. We ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon – But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. Romans 3:21-25a

Doxology – NTH 733

Exhortation to Give – “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21

Prayer for Collection & Pastoral Prayer

Hymn of Preparation – NTH 676 – Day by Day

Scripture Readings – OT: Psalm 13:1-6 / NT: John 11:1-16

Prayer for Illumination

Exhortation – An Exposition of John 11:1-16: “Jesus Glorified in Sickness and Death”

Jesus delays answering a request for help – from His friends – to reveal His greater glory as the Son of God.

  1. 1. The appeal to the Lord who loves His afflicted people. (John 11:1-4)
  2. 2. The greater glory of the Lord who loves His afflicted people. (John 11:5-10)
  3. 3. The faith-strengthening revelation of the Lord who loves His afflicted people. (John 11:11-16)

Prayer of Application

Song of Response – NTH 30 – Our God, Our Help in Ages Past

Benediction – May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. – Romans 15:5-6
