LIVING HOPE OPC ORDER OF WORSHIP for Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 10:45 AM

Prelude

Opening Hymn – Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun

Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. - 1 Tim. 1:2

Call to Worship Song – NTH 734 – Gloria Patri

Call to Worship – Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Hymn of Praise – NTH 498 – Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!

Reading of the Law – Matthew 22:34-40

Corporate Confession of Sin – Almighty, everlasting God, for our many sins we justly deserve eternal condemnation. In Your great mercy, you sent your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who won for us forgiveness of sins and everlasting righteousness. Grant us true repentance that, dead to sin, we may be raised up by faith in Your life-giving Gospel. Grant us your Holy Spirit that we may be ever thankful and live a faithful and godly life in your service; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon – In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight. Eph. 1:7-8

Doxology – NTH 732

Exhortation to Give – The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Sermon – An Exposition of John 7:53-8:11: “Jesus Exposes Hypocrites and Saves Sinners”

Jesus wisely exposes hypocritical accusers – and justifies and sanctifies undeniable sinners.

  1. The accusers, the accused, and the trap. (John 7:53-8:6a)
  2. The accusers trapped by their own accusations. (John 8:8b-9)
  3. The accusations answered with justifying and sanctifying grace. (John 8:10-11)

Prayer of Application

Hymn of Response – NTH 509 – Jesus, Lover of My Soul

Benediction – Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thess. 5:23
