LIVING HOPE OPC ORDER OF WORSHIP

for Sunday, November 15th, 2020 at 10:45 AM

Rev. Dave Holmlund leading worship & preaching

Prelude – NTH 353 – I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord

Announcements – see below

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Song – NTH 1 – All People That on Earth Do Dwell

Call to Worship – Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! Psalm 105:1-4

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Opening Hymn – NTH 355 – We Are God’s People

Reading of Law – Matthew 22:37-40

Confession of Sin – Almighty God, we confess we have broken your commandments. We have sinned by selfishness, worldliness, unbelief and pride. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves, and we have not walked humbly with you. Forgive us our sins and blot out our debts according to your tender mercies, according to your loving kindness. Cleanse us by the blood of Jesus your Son. Give us a humble and contrite heart that we might forgive others as you have forgiven us. We ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:13-14

Confession of Faith (Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A 21)

Leader: Christian, what is true faith?

People: True faith is not only a sure knowledge by which I hold as true all that God has revealed to us in his Word; it is also a wholehearted trust, which the Holy Spirit works in me by the gospel, that God has freely granted, not only to others but to me also, forgiveness of sins, eternal righteousness, and salvation. These gifts are purely of grace, only because of Christ’s merit.

Doxology – NTH 733

Exhortation to Give – “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21

Prayer for Collection & Pastoral Prayer

Scripture Readings – OT: Psalm 107:1-9 / NT: Hebrews 10:19-25

Medley – O Church Arise

– Let the Cross Be Our Glory

Prayer for Illumination

Sermon – An Exposition of Hebrews 10:19-25: “Confidence in Christ which Builds the Church”

Prayer of Application

Closing Song – NTH 347 – The Church’s One Foundation

Benediction – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Rom. 15:13
