Prelude

Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Song – Stand Up and Bless the Lord

Call to Worship – I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! Ps. 34:1-3

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Opening Hymn – NTH 101 – Come Thou Almighty King

Reading of Law – Romans 3:9-20

Confession of Sin – Have mercy on us, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out our transgressions. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin. For we know our transgressions, and our sin is ever before us. Against you, you only, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Purge us with hyssop, and we shall be clean; wash us and we shall be whiter than snow. For you have promised, O Father, that if we confess our sins, you will be faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness – by the blood of your Son, Jesus. Restore to us the joy of your salvation by the power of your Holy Spirit. And enable us, by your grace, to walk in the light of your Gospel, and to show fellow sinners the way of repentance. Amen. (Adapted from Psalm 51)

Assurance of Pardon – But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:21-24

Exhortation to Give – Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Heb. 13:16

Doxology – NTH 732

Jesus calls five sure witnesses to confirm that He is God’s Son sent to do His will. Do you receive their testimony?

  1. First witness: God the Father. (John 5:30-32)
  2. Second witness: John the Baptist. (John 5:33-35)
  3. Third witness: Jesus’ works – and the Father’s Word. (John 5:36-38)
  4. Fourth witness: the Scriptures. (John 5:39-40)
    1. So why would anyone reject these witnesses? (John 5:41-44)
  5. Fifth witness: Moses. (John 5:45-47)

Prayer of Application

Closing Song – The Law of God Is Good and Wise

Benediction – The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
