Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Song – Reformation Hymn

Call to Worship – How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Ps. 84:1-4

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Opening Hymn Medley – NTH 122 – God, All Nature Sings Thy Glory

Reading of Law – A Summary of the Ten Commandments & Great Commandment

Confession of Sin – Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us. And grant, O merciful Father, for Jesus’ sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and joyful life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Declaration of Pardon – What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Rom. 8:31-34

Confession of Faith (The Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Exhortation to Give – Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness. 1 Chron. 16:29

Doxology – NTH 733

Communion Sermon

Christ in the OT (Psalm 8 with Hebrews 2:5-18): “Christ Restores Our Dominion Dignity”

Christ restores the dominion Adam lost.

  1. Our majestic Creator gave us dominion over creation. (Psalm 8:1-9; Genesis 1:28; Hebrews 2:5-8)
  2. Adam’s rebellion brought the dominion of sin and death. (Psalm 8:2; Hebrews 2:9)
  3. Christ redeems us from sin and death – and restores our dominion dignity as the Second Adam. (Hebrews 2:10-18)
