LIVING HOPE OPC ORDER OF WORSHIP

for Sunday, November 29th, 2020 at 10:45 AM

Prelude – NTH 53 – Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Announcements – see below

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Song – Behold our God

Call to Worship – Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:1-3

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Opening Hymn – W&C 557 – In Thanksgiving Let Us Praise Him

Reading of Law – Ephesians 2:1-3

Confession of Sin – Have mercy on us, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out our transgressions. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin. For we know our transgressions, and our sin is ever before us. Against you, you only, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Purge us with hyssop, and we shall be clean; wash us and we shall be whiter than snow. For you have promised, O Father, that if we confess our sins, you will be faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness – by the blood of your Son, Jesus. Restore to us the joy of your salvation by the power of your Holy Spirit. And enable us, by your grace, to walk in the light of your Gospel, and to show fellow sinners the way of repentance. Amen. (Adapted from Psalm 51)

Declaration of Pardon – For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Confession of Faith (Heidelberg Catechism, Q&A 60)

Leader: Christian, how are you righteous before God?

Congregation: Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments, of never having kept any of them, and of still being inclined to all evil, nevertheless, without any merit of my own, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ, as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner, and as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me – if only I accept this gift with a believing heart.

Doxology – NTH 732

Exhortation to Give – But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in giving which is an act of grace also. 2 Corinthians 8:7

Prayer for Collection & Pastoral Prayer

Scripture Readings – OT: Psalm 2 / NT: Acts 13:26-43

Medley – NTH 363 – We Gather Together

– NTH 715 – Come Ye Thankful People Come

Prayer for Illumination

Sermon – An Exposition of Psalm 2:7-12: “Christ Exalted Inherits the Nations”

The exalted Christ reveals His Father’s decree – and our Gospel mission as His church:

  1. 1. The nations are His inheritance. (Psalm 2:7-9)
  2. 2. He provides blessed refuge from God’s just wrath against rebels. (Psalm 2:10-12)

Prayer of Application

Closing Song – NTH 310 – Rejoice, the Lord Is King!

Benediction – The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26
