Romans 8:3  For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

 

The Manger is In the Shadow of the Cross Because We Are in the Shadow of the Law

 

  1. The Shadow of the Cross Was Over the Manger Since the Fall of Adam

 

  1. The death of Jesus on the cross was not a mistake -              Rev 13:8

 

  1. The prophecies about the Savior are clear about…

 

               Gen 3:15 –

               Gen 22 –

               Ex 12 –

               Leviticus 16:30

               Psalm 22:9 -14-18

               Is 7:14 & 9:6 &  53:3-12  

 

               So clear, how could they miss it?

                   

  1. The Shadow of the Cross Was Over the Manger Because the Shadow of the Law of God is Over Us

 

  1. The Law of God could not set men free fro…                Romans 8:2-3  

 

                              Gen 3 =death penalty so since the Fall all people fail to keep the Law

 

               To be saved by Law keeping we mus…

                              Romans 2:25   

                              Galatians 5:3   

 

  1. But maybe it is God’s fault                   Rom 7:7

 

                               Rom 8:3   it is not the Law that is weak

 

III. The Shadow of the Cross Was Over the Manger Because the Cross Alone Can Remove the Shadow of the Law

 

  1. Christ’s “active obedience” is not enough…    “the likeness of sinful flesh”

                                              

  1. Christ;s “passive obedience” is needed  “in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin”

                                             Rom 8:3 - “for sin”  

                                             Isaiah  53:4-6-8,10-12
