Prelude

Opening Song – O Church Arise

Announcements

Gospel Greeting – Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Call to Worship Hymn – The Risen Christ

Call to Worship – I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! – Psalm 34:1-3

Prayer of Adoration & Invocation

Hymn of Praise – NTH 76 – Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven (from Psalm 103)

Reading of the Law – Ephesians 2:1-3

Corporate Confession of Sin – Almighty God, we confess we have broken your commandments. We have sinned by selfishness, worldliness, unbelief and pride. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves, and we have not walked humbly with you. Forgive us our sins and blot out our debts according to your tender mercies, according to your loving kindness. Cleanse us by the blood of Jesus your Son. Give us a humble and contrite heart that we might forgive others as you have forgiven us. We ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon – For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Eph. 2:8-9

Doxology – NTH 733

Exhortation to Give – Jesus says, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

Medley of Praise

– Let the Cross be Our Glory

– May the Mind of Christ My Savior

Prayer for Illumination

Sermon – An Exposition of John 8:39-47: “Like Father, Like Son”

Jesus reveals those who are and are not the sons of God – by their family likeness.

  1. True sons of Abraham reflect his faith and works. (John 8:39-41a)
  2. True sons of God love Jesus, the Son of God – but children of the devil, like their father, lie and murder. (John 8:41b-45)
  3. True sons of God receive the words of God from the true Son of God. (John 8:46-47)

Prayer of Application

Hymn of Response – NTH 6 – O Come, My Soul, Bless Thou the Lord (from Psalm 103)

Benediction – Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21
